About the Financial Supervision Training Directory

At its first meeting in April 1999, the Financial Stability Forum took the decision to sponsor the production of a database of training opportunities for financial supervisors. This database, focused on financial sector supervision, is the result of a joint effort between the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and the Bank for International Settlements.

This directory for financial supervision is designed to inform and assist financial supervisors to identify training programs to upgrade their skills. By improving the awareness and access of financial supervisors/regulators to training programs, it is hoped that this database will contribute to raising the technical capacity and quality of management in supervisory institutions.

The criteria for including training courses in the database are:

  1. Training includes substantial number of spaces for cross-border participants, open through an application process
  2. Courses are scheduled one month or more in advance
  3. The duration is at least two days
  4. The subject matter is directly related to strengthening financial sector supervision/regulation

The organisations providing training in financial supervision (or "training providers") include international financial institutions and official organisations; global and/or regional organisations of financial sector supervisors; and central banks and other national regulators.
